Inclusion of Children into Parents’ Passports

We have been informed by the Department of Immigration & Emigration of Sri Lanka by letter No. OM/02/06(01) dated 24/04/2006 that if children’s photographs are pasted on ‘N’ series passports of parents by Embassies, such passports will be cancelled when they return to Sri Lanka and they will have to obtain new passports by paying the relevant fee. As a result, there could be problems pertaining to visas stamped on those passports. If parents are willing to accept the above-mentioned conditions and repercussions, the Mission is authorized to paste children’s photographs on their passports.

The Department of Immigration & Emigration in Sri Lanka has already made arrangements to issue separate passports for children who are born abroad, if the following requirements are fulfilled.

1. The Citizenship Certificate
2. A certified copy of the receipt of payment for Citizenship Certificate, if the Citizenship Certificate is not available. (this facility is granted in consideration of long period taken to process citizenship applications and until the present backlog is cleared. It is advisable to attach a separate letter from the Mission confirming the registration for citizenship along with the receipt of payment).
3. A certified copy of the consular Birth Certificate of the child
4. Copies of parent’s passports
5. Written consent of both parents
6. Marriage certificate of parent’s (if available)
