Prior visa endorsement is needed for nationals of any country if they are visiting Sri Lanka for business purposes.
Persons conducting business are classified as a person conducting trade and commercial transactions, foreign investment, business partnership, employment as well as those attending conferences, consultancy work, religious work etc.
Application for Business Visas must be accompanied by a Company profile including the nature of the Business Organization/ Business entity and the products/services provided, in order to process the visa application.
Visa for studies, residence and work are not normally issued unless the respective agencies in Sri Lanka have formally processed such applications and sought the approval of the Controller of Immigration and Emigration.
Journalists of both print and electronic media need to obtain clearance from Sri Lankan authorities. Application should be submitted at least three weeks prior to the date of visit.
All applicants should allow at least 10 working days for issuance of visas.
This Mission processes the following categories of Business visas
- Business visa for maximum of 30 days
- Business visa maximum of 3 months with multiple entry facility
- Business visas for maximum period of 12 months with multiple entry facility.
Checklist:
For a business visa to be issued, the following should be supplied.
- Applicant’s valid passport
- Two recent identical passport size photographs
- Confirmed travel itinerary
- Letter of invitation from Sri Lanka authority/Company
- A letter from the employer
- For multiple business visas, multiple business visa applications should be submitted in duplicate.

An Australia dollar visa fee is applicable to persons extending their visas beyond 30 days as follows:

3 months double entry business visa:

3 months multiple entry business:

- PNG A$ 105.00
- New Zealand A$ 210.00
4-12 months double entry business visa:
- Australia A$ 120.00 + Visa Tax of A$165
- Fiji A$ 128.00 + Visa Tax of A$165
- PNG A$ 70.00 + Visa Tax of A$165
- New Zealand A$ 140.00 + Visa Tax of A$165
4-12 months single entry visa:
- Australia A$ 120.00 + Visa Tax of A$165
