Application for a new Sri Lankan Passport

A Sri Lankan Passport initially issued for a period of five (05) years may be extended for a further five (05) years.

A Sri Lankan Passport initially issued for a period of ten (10) years, cannot be extended further.passprt

Checklist:

  • Ensure your application is certified by us (solicitor.)
  • Check that the Form IM 35(B) - "Verification Photograph" has been certified and that our signature and our (solicitor's seal) has been placed over the verification photograph and an additional two certified photographs.
  • If you have a dependant child to be included in your passport, ensure Form 35(C) has also been completed.
  1. If the child was born in Sri Lanka, please attach the original birth certificate.
  2. If the child was born outside of Sri Lanka, in addition to the original birth certificate, the certificate of registration of birth outside Sri Lanka issued by the Secretary/Defence and three certified photographs should be attached.
  • Applicants should give their current residence address and not their Sri Lankan address.
  • For people who have been on a permanent residence visa in Australia (two or more years) or in New Zealand (three or more years), a Certificate of Evidence of Residence Status (referred to as Certificate of Denial in New Zealand) will need to be sent with your application. This certificate can be obtained by contacting the Australian Department of Immigration or Department of Internal Affairs inNew Zealand.
  • Sri Lankan residents without a valid visa of residence to stay in Australia or New Zealand will have their passports restricted and endorsed "Only to return to Sri Lanka". To avoid your passport being restricted, it is advisable to attach a letter from the Immigration authorities confirming that the visa will be extended upon renewal.
  • If the applicant is in Australia on a Student Visa, a letter from the University or the institute he/she is studying in.
  • Attach and send your present passport/travel document with your application - Dual citizens should send the original Dual Citizenship Certificate issued by the Sri Lanka authorities.
  • Attach your Original Birth Certificate and a Photocopy (not translations).
  • Attach a copy of your National Identity Card issued by the Commissioner of Registration of Persons inSri Lanka (if available).
  • Attach Marriage Certificate if the spouse has changed from their maiden name.
  • Request in writing with contact details: Tel. no., E-mal address and Fax no. (if available)

Passport fees:

  • within Australia A$ 180.00
  • outside Australia A$ 190.00
  • For expired passports, an extra A$ 5.00 per year will be charged in addition to the normal fee from the date of expiry.

  • Cash – we will issue a lawyers trust receipt
  • Money Order
  • Bank Cheque ( Personal cheques  are  not acceptable )
